Relationships can be a bit of a mixed bag: Sometimes, they are the most dazzling and precious parts of our lives. Other times, relationships can feel lonely, painful, and exhausting. My goal is to help you and your partner(s) navigate both the difficult aspects of your relationship and celebrate the joys and strengths. My hope is for clients to embrace curiosity and compassion – towards themselves, towards their partner(s), and towards the patterns in their relationship.
I have met all of the requirements as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Ohio, and am currently earning my PhD in Human Development and Family Science at The Ohio State University. As such, I utilize research-based approaches in my practice (e.g., Emotion-focused Therapy, The Gottman Method, DBT). I am very aware that you are spending your hard-earned money, time, emotional and cognitive energy during therapy. My responsibility is to help you reach your goals, however you define them, as efficiently as possible.
However, this does not mean that I have a magic wand (as much as I would like to). Research suggests that the greatest predictors of positive therapy outcomes are the client-therapist relationship and the client’s motivation. In other words, for this process to have the best shot at success, two things must happen: 1) we need to be a good fit for each other and 2) you need be prepared to work hard. I am committed to doing the same for you.
My personal and professional values align with prioritizing social justice, inclusion, and intersectionality. I maintain an awareness for how the larger social-political structures make it more or less difficult for folks to navigate society based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, and economic status. I am committed to holding a non-judgmental and accepting space for my clients to explore their identities, hardships, and dreams.
On a personal note, when I’m not working with clients or fulfilling my grad-student responsibilities, I love spending time with my partner and our two cats. I also enjoy traveling, cooking, and playing tennis.
Congratulations on taking this next step to care for yourself and/or your family. If you feel that we might be a good match or have questions, I hope you’ll schedule a 15-minute consultation with me!
