What is Infidelity?

Infidelity is present when a secret is kept and trust is broken. It does not require extramarital sex or adultery to feel like betrayal. Infidelity is any betrayal where one partner has kept part of themselves or their behavior secret from their partner, and the revelation of that secret causes trauma in the relationship. It happens in approximately 50% of relationships. Left unaddressed, it can create a wedge between partners for years or a lifetime. If the breach of trust is rebuilt, a couple can create a more connected, honest, loving, and fulfilling relationship.
