Relationships are wild and complex. At times, they can be fulfilling and life-affirming. At other times, they can be challenging, overwhelming, discouraging, and debilitating. We can feel hopeless and without purpose when we are in the depths of heartbreak, loss, and disconnection.
Have you heard of the grey?
The grey is the space that exists between black and white. The grey is the middle ground between two extremes. The grey is: “What about both?” when our anxieties and fears tell us: “You have to choose one or the other.” There is comfort in the grey because it means we don’t have to have the answers right now. It means that we have choice, agency, power in a life that we may feel powerless. It means that we, despite our best efforts and intentions, will fail and make mistakes—and there is freedom in accepting this as reality. All that we can do is try. Trying is the grey. The grey is where we can feel safe to be vulnerable. The grey is where we can find our authentic selves—where we are not pigeon holed into who I (or my partner, friend, parent, or boss) think I should be. The grey is true peace and freedom to exist in the world in the exact, true way I was meant to.
The grey is also where you will find me.
Do you want to explore those possibilities? Do you want permission to not know what the next step is? Do you want a presence who will honor your innate beauty in supporting your personal dreams, your romantic partnership, and your family? Do you want to find safety, comfort, and love in a relationship that has felt heavy with hurt? Do you want someone who will enter with you into the deep, dark parts of your past and present, so that we can pull back the curtains of self-doubt and shame? Who will find the pockets of light within you and expand them to brighten the darkness?
I hope you’re here because you know you are worth investing time in. Whatever challenge you are facing, whatever you are fearing, I am here to walk with you through it. Harlene Anderson describes the therapy process as you, the client extending to me a ball. This ball contains your hopes, dreams, desires, fears, values, and your whole self. I, as your therapist, will never take this ball from you. I will see it, listen to it, honor it, and hold it with you. I’m in the grey with you and for you. I hope I can be a part of your journey!
