Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed.
It means the damage no longer controls our lives.

"W
hat do we do when an affair has been discovered?"

The discovery of infidelity is a traumatic experience. Many people struggle to manage the upheaval of emotions.

Infidelity is present when a secret is kept and trust is broken. Infidelity does not require extramarital sex or adultery. It happens in approximately 50% of relationships. Left unaddressed it can create a wedge between partners for years or a lifetime. If the breach of trust is rebuilt a couple can create a more connected, honest, loving, and fulfilling relationship.

Couples who are interested in healing together may desperately want to stay together, but struggle with how.

Some try traditional marriage or couples counseling and learn quickly they need to address the trauma of the betrayal before they can hope to reconnect. Other couples try therapy for sex addiction only to find infidelity cannot be resolved with addiction recovery..

Individuals may realize the infidelity has helped them decide they want to move on.

Some try therapy to heal from the discovery of their indiscretion or the indiscretion of their partner and realize traditional marital/couples/relationship therapy does not address their unique set of challenges.

Infidelity/affair recovery is therapy that addresses the struggles BOTH partners are facing.

As the partner involved in infidelity, you may struggle with the guilt, shame and questions about your own identity. You may try to move to avoid the questions that seem to never end in a effort to minimize the pain and move on. You may try to be open and help you partner, but struggle when it seems they never get any better. There is hope. These experiences are not uncommon and can be worked through.

As the partner who was betrayed, you may struggle with the constant thoughts, restless nights, sadness, hurt embarrassment, and even physical ailments. You may have been blindsided or have had known all along. Either way, the pain may seem so intense that you cannot imagine ever healing from it. It feels like the world as you know it has been a lie. This does not have to be your new reality. You can heal from this. You can decide if you want to restore you existing relationship or if you want to move on. If you choose to stay or go, you can do so stronger and with stronger relationships than you have experienced before.

Affair/Infidelity Recovery (as a couple) is a journey that includes several phases. Those phases include:
  • Discovery/Revelation
  • Emotional First Aid/Creating Safety
  • Data Collection
  • Having Safe Conversations
  • Discussing the Involved Partner's "Why"
  • Restoring the Relationship/Addressing Pre-existing Challenges
  • Getting Closure for Both Partners
Affair/Infidelity Recovery (as an individual) also includes some of the aforementioned phases
